How they feel: two firm-leaning foam beds
Casper The One is a medium-firm all-foam bed, about 7 out of 10 according to independent testers. Open-cell foam over Align+ memory foam gives a gentle contour, and it scores 5 out of 5 for motion isolation and 4 out of 5 for pressure relief in our review-based ratings.
The Tuft & Needle Original is now the 12-inch Original Mattress II, labeled Firm, with graphite- and gel-infused adaptive foam on top. We haven't found an independent firmness score for this newer version, so our 7.5 out of 10 is an estimate from the label, and its performance ratings come from reviews of the older model. By those estimates, it isolates motion well but has weak edges (2 out of 5) and average pressure relief.
Who should pick each: Tuft and Needle vs Casper by sleeper
Pick Casper if you share the bed with a restless partner, sleep on your back and side, or want a slightly softer surface that's kinder to shoulders. Skip it if you sleep hot; cooling is only average.
Pick Tuft & Needle if you sleep on your back or stomach, need a mattress for a guest room or first apartment, or simply want the cheapest name-brand foam bed here. Skip it if you're a side sleeper or often sit on the edge, since its edges are its weakest point.
Value and policies: same terms, different prices
Policies are identical: both come with a 100-night trial and a 10-year limited warranty. Price is the difference. Casper The One lists at about $1,149 and is often around $899 for a queen. Tuft & Needle lists at about $599, sometimes a little less on sale, and is made in the USA.
If you're focused on budget, also look at the Nectar Classic Memory Foam. It's often around $699 for a queen, is firm like T&N but with much stronger edges, and adds a 365-night trial and lifetime warranty. Read Nectar vs Tuft & Needle and Casper vs Nectar for that matchup.

Frequently asked questions
Is Casper better than Tuft & Needle?
For couples and combination sleepers, Casper The One is the better mattress on paper, with stronger motion isolation, better pressure relief and better edges. Tuft & Needle is the better value for back and stomach sleepers who want a simple, firm foam bed for less. Both share the same 100-night trial and 10-year warranty.
Which is firmer, Casper or Tuft and Needle?
Tuft & Needle now labels its 12-inch Original Mattress II Firm, while Casper calls The One medium-firm and independent testers rate it about 7 out of 10. So T&N is likely the firmer of the two, though no independent score exists yet for its newest version. Older reviews describing T&N as medium-firm refer to the previous 10-inch model.
Is Tuft & Needle good for side sleepers?
It's not the best choice. The current Original is labeled Firm and scores an estimated 3 out of 5 for pressure relief. Side sleepers usually need more give at the shoulders and hips. At a similar budget, the Leesa Original or Zinus Green Tea are softer options worth comparing.
