The Nectar Classic Memory Foam is a 12" all-foam bed. It has 1" of memory foam, 3" of responsive support foam and 8" of base foam under a cooling cover. Nectar now labels it Firm, and testers rate it 7.5 out of 10. This Nectar Classic review sees it as one of the best-value firm foam beds for back and stomach sleepers. It comes with a 365-night trial and a lifetime "Forever Warranty". Side sleepers are the group most likely to regret it.

What we like

  • Firm 7.5/10 support suits back and stomach sleepers
  • Edge support rated 5/5, unusual for an all-foam bed
  • Deep discounts, often around $699 for a queen at checkout
  • 365-night trial and lifetime warranty

Watch out for

  • Only 1" of memory foam, so pressure relief is limited (3/5)
  • Low bounce (2/5), so changing position takes effort
  • Many shoppers remember Nectar as medium-firm, but the current Classic is firm

Nectar Classic feel and firmness

At 7.5 out of 10 the Classic is firmly in firm territory. The thin memory foam layer gives a brief, slow sink before you hit dense support. This is a change from Nectar's older reputation as a medium-firm, huggy bed. If you're replacing an older Nectar, expect a firmer feel.

The layers explain the feel. With just 1" of memory foam over 3" of responsive support foam and 8" of base foam, most of what you feel is support rather than cushioning. The antimicrobial treatment and cooling cover don't change the firmness.

Best (and worst) sleeping positions

Back sleepers over about 130 lbs get a level, well-supported spine. Stomach sleepers get the hip support they need. A 7.5 suits stomach sleepers up to around 230 lbs before the foam begins to give too much. Side sleepers are the poor fit. A 7.5 with 3/5 pressure relief will feel hard at the shoulders for most side sleepers, especially under about 180 lbs. A topper can help, but a softer bed is the better fix.

Cooling, motion and edges

Cooling scores 4, thanks to cooling fibers in the cover and the firm surface, which means you don't sink into the foam. You can add the NectarCool upgrade for about $99 more. Motion isolation is a 4, so it's good for couples. The 5/5 edge rating stands out among all-foam beds.

Price, trial and warranty

Tom's Guide lists an MSRP of about $1,615 for a queen. In practice it is often sold for around $649 to $699, and Nectar advertises savings of up to 50%. Few beds at this price come with a 365-night trial and lifetime warranty, which lowers the risk if the firm feel turns out to be wrong.

Treat the list price as a reference only. The checkout price is what matters, and it's rarely anywhere near the MSRP.

How it compares

Nectar vs Tuft & Needle compares two firm foam beds in the same price range. Nectar has better edges and much longer policies. DreamCloud vs Nectar is helpful if you want the same firm feel with coils. If you're on a tight budget, the Siena Memory Foam is even firmer and cheaper. Side sleepers should look at the Nectar Premier Hybrid instead. The Classic also appears in our best firm mattress guide.

Our verdict

The Nectar Classic is a low-risk, firm all-foam bed for back and stomach sleepers. It's usually discounted to well under $1,000 and comes with a full-year trial. Skip it if you sleep on your side or want a bouncy, responsive feel. Nectar's Premier Hybrid or a medium bed will be kinder to your shoulders.

Questions about the Nectar Classic Memory Foam

Is the Nectar mattress firm or soft?

The current Nectar Classic is firm. Nectar labels it Firm, and testers rate it 7.5 out of 10. Earlier versions were often described as medium-firm, so older reviews may make it sound softer than the bed you'd receive today.

Is the Nectar Classic good for side sleepers?

Generally not. With only 1" of memory foam and a 7.5/10 feel, most side sleepers will feel pressure at the shoulders and hips. Heavier side sleepers may manage. Most others should look at a medium bed like the Nectar Premier Hybrid.

Is the Nectar Classic really $699?

Nectar regularly sells the queen for around $649 to $699, while Tom's Guide lists the MSRP at about $1,615. Discounts are frequent but not guaranteed, so check the current price at checkout.
