The Leesa Original is a 10" all-foam bed. It layers 2" of plant-based GreenFlex foam and 2" of memory foam over 6" of support foam, and it is made in Arizona. Testers place it in the 5 to 7 range, which we record as 6 out of 10, though they felt it was on the firmer end. This Leesa Original review finds it a strong value for side and combination sleepers and couples. You get a balanced foam feel, excellent motion isolation and long policies for under $1,000.

What we like

  • Motion isolation rated 5/5, excellent for couples
  • The springy top foam and memory foam combine for easy movement plus pressure relief
  • 365-night trial and limited lifetime warranty
  • About $967 for a queen at list price, often around $769 on sale

Watch out for

  • At 10" with 6" of support foam, it may feel thin for sleepers over about 230 lbs
  • Low bounce (2/5) and average edges (3/5)
  • Too soft for most stomach sleepers

Leesa Original feel and firmness

A 6 out of 10 is a true medium. The GreenFlex top layer is fairly responsive, so you don't feel stuck. The memory foam underneath then adds gentle contouring at the shoulders and hips. Because testers felt it was on the firmer side of the 5-7 range, expect closer to medium-firm than plush.

The 2" GreenFlex top layer is plant-based foam, and it's the reason Leesa feels more responsive on the surface than a pure memory foam bed. The 2" memory foam layer underneath handles contouring. At 10" tall with 6" of support foam, it's slimmer than most beds in our dataset.

Best (and worst) sleeping positions

Side sleepers between about 130 and 230 lbs are a natural fit, with enough give for the shoulder and support for the hip. Combination sleepers like the responsive top. Back sleepers under about 200 lbs do fine. Stomach sleepers usually need 7 or firmer to keep their hips level, and heavier sleepers may find the 10" profile bottoms out over time.

Cooling, motion and edges

Motion isolation is a 5, so you're unlikely to feel a partner getting in and out of bed. Cooling scores 4, which is good for an all-foam bed. You can also add an optional cooling quilt top. Edges are a 3, so expect some sink if you sit on the corner.

Price, trial and warranty

Leesa lists the queen at about $967, often on sale for around $769. The 365-night trial and limited lifetime warranty come from Leesa's site. Tom's Guide's earlier review listed 100 nights and a higher MSRP, so policies have improved. It is also GREENGUARD Gold certified, CertiPUR-US certified and fiberglass-free.

The policies are a big part of the value. A 365-night trial at this price lets you try the bed through every season, which helps you judge whether an all-foam bed sleeps too warm in summer.

How it compares

Leesa vs Casper compares it with Casper The One, which is firmer (7/10) with a shorter trial. Leesa vs Nectar sets this medium foam against Nectar's firm Classic. Saatva vs Leesa shows what a premium innerspring adds. If you can't decide between soft and firm, the flippable Layla Memory Foam offers both. Leesa also appears in our best mattress for side sleepers list.

Our verdict

The Leesa Original is a well-priced, quiet medium foam bed for side sleepers and couples. It comes with one of the best policy packages in our dataset. Skip it if you sleep on your stomach, weigh over about 230 lbs, or want a bouncy, edge-to-edge surface. A firmer foam bed or coil hybrid suits those needs better.

Questions about the Leesa Original

Is the Leesa Original good for side sleepers?

Yes, for most average-weight side sleepers. Its medium feel (about 6/10) and memory foam layer cushion the shoulders and hips. The responsive top keeps you from feeling stuck. Very light side sleepers may still want something softer.

Is Leesa a firm mattress?

No. The Leesa Original is a medium, rated in the 5-7 range, and testers felt it was on the firmer end. It's softer than Nectar's Classic or Casper The One but not plush.

Does the Leesa Original sleep hot?

Testers rate its cooling 4 out of 5, which is good for all-foam. An optional cooling quilt top is available. Very hot sleepers may still prefer a coil or latex hybrid.
