The Saatva Latex Hybrid is an organic, made-in-USA latex hybrid. It pairs 3" of 5-zone natural Talalay latex with zoned pocketed coils under an organic cotton and wool cover. It comes in a single medium-firm feel that independent testers rate 6 out of 10. In this Saatva Latex Hybrid review, the picture is clear. It suits back sleepers, combination sleepers and eco-minded shoppers who want a buoyant, cool bed. Side sleepers who want deep sink and shoppers on a budget have better options.

What we like

  • Natural Talalay latex feels buoyant and responsive rather than stuck-in
  • GOLS organic latex, eco-INSTITUT and GREENGUARD Gold certifications
  • 5-zone latex plus Lumbar Zone tech for targeted lower-back support
  • 365-night trial and lifetime warranty

Watch out for

  • About $2,759 for a queen at list price, the priciest bed in our dataset
  • One firmness only, with no softer option for lighter side sleepers
  • Motion isolation is middling (3/5), as is common with latex and coils
  • Sleep Foundation notes a $149 processing fee on warranty claims after year 2

Feel and firmness of the Saatva Latex Hybrid

A 6 out of 10 is a true medium-firm, the most common comfort range for adults. Latex pushes back quickly, so you feel lifted rather than sunk-in. That is very different from memory foam's slow hug. The wool layer adds a slightly plush surface without taking away that springy response.

Saatva hand-tufts the mattress and makes it in the USA. The 5-zone latex layer is the key support feature, with firmer zones under the hips and softer zones under the shoulders, and the Lumbar Zone tech adds extra lower-back support.

Best (and worst) sleeping positions

Back sleepers are the clearest fit. The zoned latex firms up under the hips and eases off at the shoulders, which helps keep the spine level. Combination sleepers benefit from the bounce (4/5), which makes turning over easy. Side sleepers over about 130 lbs often do fine. Lighter side sleepers may feel pressure at the shoulder. Stomach sleepers over about 230 lbs may want something firmer. For ongoing back pain, see a doctor or physical therapist before you buy.

Cooling, motion and edges

Latex is naturally more breathable than memory foam. With coils, wool and cotton, testers rate cooling 4 out of 5. Edge support is a solid 4. Motion isolation is a 3. If your partner gets up often and you wake easily, you'll notice more than on an all-foam bed.

Price, trial and warranty

At about $2,759 for a queen at list price, often on sale for around $2,346, you're paying for organic materials and US manufacturing. Free white-glove delivery is included. The 365-night trial is generous. The warranty is lifetime, but Sleep Foundation reports a $149 processing fee for claims after the second year, so read the terms.

Since there's only one feel, the long trial is your safety net if it isn't right.

How it compares

Its nearest rival is the Avocado Green Mattress, which uses Dunlop latex, comes in more firmness levels and costs a few hundred dollars less at list price. See Saatva vs Avocado for the brand-level view. The Birch Natural is the lower-priced organic latex hybrid, with a thinner 10" profile and similar medium-firm comfort. If you like Saatva but prefer innerspring, the Saatva Classic costs less and offers three firmness options. It's also in our roundup of the best mattress for back sleepers.

Our verdict

Buy the Saatva Latex Hybrid if you want organic latex, a level medium-firm feel and luxury service, and you sleep mostly on your back. Skip it if you need strong motion isolation, a softer surface for side sleeping, or a lower price. The Avocado and Birch cover similar ground for less.

Questions about the Saatva Latex Hybrid

Is the Saatva Latex Hybrid good for side sleepers?

It works for many side sleepers over about 130 lbs because the zoned latex softens at the shoulders. Lighter side sleepers may find the 6/10 feel too firm. If you're a light side sleeper, a softer option, like the Saatva Classic's Plush Soft model, is a safer bet.

What is the difference between Talalay and Dunlop latex?

Talalay latex, which Saatva uses, is generally lighter and springier. Dunlop latex, which Avocado uses, is usually denser and feels firmer. Both are natural latex. The difference mostly shows up as a slightly airier, bouncier surface on Talalay.

Does Saatva charge for warranty claims?

The warranty is lifetime, but Sleep Foundation notes a $149 processing fee applies to claims after year 2. Confirm the current terms on Saatva's warranty page before you buy.
