The Saatva Classic is a coil-on-coil innerspring with a 3" Euro pillow top, and it is the closest thing in our dataset to a traditional luxury hotel bed. You choose from three feels: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm and Firm. Independent testers rate those roughly 3, 6.5 and 8 out of 10, so this Saatva Classic review averages them at 5.8. On paper it suits almost everyone, as long as you pick the right firmness. Shoppers who want a sink-in memory foam hug should look elsewhere.
Best for: Side sleepers · Back sleepers · Stomach sleepers · Combination sleepers · Back pain · Heavier bodies · Luxury
What we like
- Three firmness levels plus two heights (11.5" or 14.5"), so most body types can find a match
- Top-of-scale edge support, cooling and pressure relief on our 1-5 ratings
- Lumbar Zone tech adds extra support under the lower back
- Lifetime warranty, 365-night trial and free white-glove delivery
Watch out for
- About $2,229 for a queen at list price, so it is not a budget pick
- Coils mean more bounce and a little more motion transfer than all-foam beds
- Picking the wrong firmness matters more here because the range is so wide
Saatva Classic feel and firmness
Think springy and supportive rather than huggy. The pillow top softens the surface, but you sleep on the bed, not in it. Because the three options span 3 to 8 out of 10, the 5.8 average is only a midpoint. Luxury Firm, rated about 6.5, sits in classic medium-firm territory, and Saatva itself puts it between 5 and 7. Plush Soft is genuinely soft, and Firm is close to an 8.
The 14.5" height comes with the same comfort options in a taller profile. It can help on low frames or if you find it hard to get in and out of bed.
Best (and worst) sleeping positions
Side sleepers under about 230 lbs should look at Plush Soft or Luxury Firm, which leave room for shoulders and hips to sink. Back sleepers and combination sleepers usually land on Luxury Firm. Stomach sleepers and heavier back sleepers are the main audience for Firm, which keeps the hips from dipping. The worst match is someone who wants deep, slow-moving contouring. The coil-on-coil build will always feel lively. If back pain is part of your search, see a doctor or physical therapist for anything persistent.
Cooling, motion and edges
Coil-on-coil construction lets air move through the mattress, and testers rate cooling 5 out of 5. Edge support is also a 5, so sitting on the side or sleeping near the edge feels stable. Motion isolation scores 4. A restless partner will register a bit more than on a dense foam bed, but light sleepers usually manage. Bounce is 4 out of 5, an estimate based on testers' descriptions, which helps with moving around and with sex.
Price, trial and warranty
Expect about $2,229 for a queen at list price, often on sale for around $1,895. You get a 365-night trial and Saatva's lifetime "Friends for Life" warranty for the original purchaser. Free white-glove delivery includes setup, which is a real perk for a heavy coil bed.
How it compares
The WinkBed is its closest rival, with a pillow top, zoned coils and a lifetime warranty for a lower list price. Our Saatva vs WinkBed comparison breaks down the trade-offs. For a lower-priced boxed hybrid with three firmness options, look at the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe. If you're torn between a coil-on-coil and a foam-forward hybrid, read Saatva vs Helix. Our verdict
The Saatva Classic is the best all-round pick in our dataset for people who like a supportive, airy innerspring and want a lifetime warranty. Choose Luxury Firm if you're unsure. Skip it if you want memory foam's body-hugging feel or need to keep your budget under $1,000.

Questions about the Saatva Classic
Which Saatva Classic firmness should I choose?
Most sleepers do best on Luxury Firm, which testers rate about 6.5 out of 10. Pick Plush Soft if you sleep on your side and weigh under about 150 lbs. Pick Firm if you sleep on your stomach or weigh over about 230 lbs and sleep on your back.
Does the Saatva Classic come in a box?
No. It is delivered flat with free white-glove service, so the crew sets it up and can remove your old mattress. That suits a heavy coil-on-coil bed better than a box, though delivery takes longer than a boxed mattress.
Is the Saatva Classic good for hot sleepers?
Yes, on paper. Testers rate its cooling 5 out of 5. Two layers of coils let air circulate, and the organic-cotton-blend cover breathes better than dense foam.
