The Purple Restore Hybrid puts Purple's 2" GelFlex Grid over 8" pocketed coils. It is now sold in a single Medium feel. The RestorePlus (medium-soft) and RestorePremier (soft) cover the softer end of the range. We list it at about 5.5 out of 10. That number is our estimate from Purple's own label, because the only independent score we found was for an older, firmer Restore. This Purple Restore Hybrid review sees it as a strong fit for hot sleepers, couples, and side or combination sleepers.
Best for: Side sleepers · Back sleepers · Combination sleepers · Hot sleepers · Couples
What we like
- Cooling rated 5/5, one of the coolest beds in our dataset
- The grid adds pressure relief without memory foam's slow sink
- Coils add edge support (4/5) and help with heavier bodies
- Motion isolation of 4/5 makes it a good couples bed
Watch out for
- About $2,699 for a queen at list price, much more than the all-foam Purple
- Firmness is estimated, with no current independent rating for the Medium version
- 100-night trial and 10-year warranty are shorter than many rivals offer
- The grid's unusual feel is not for everyone
Feel and firmness of the Restore Hybrid
Expect a balanced medium. The grid gives way under shoulders and hips, and the coils underneath add a gentle lift. We put it at about 5.5 out of 10 from Purple's label. Sleep Foundation's 7/10 applied to the discontinued Restore Firm, so we don't use it here. If firmness is your top concern, keep an eye on the return policy. The performance ratings below come from that earlier test of the same 2" grid and 8" coil build.
Best (and worst) sleeping positions
A medium around 5.5 is in the comfort zone most side sleepers look for. Shoulders sink enough, and the coils stop hips from bottoming out. Back and combination sleepers get even support with easy movement. Stomach sleepers, especially those over about 200 lbs, usually need something closer to 7 or above to keep their hips level. They'd be better served by a firmer hybrid.
Couples with different body weights should do well. The coils support a heavier partner, while the grid eases pressure for a lighter one. If either of you sleeps on your stomach, a firmer bed is the safer shared choice.
Cooling, motion and edges
Cooling is where it stands out. An open polymer grid over coils moves heat well, testers rate it 5 out of 5, and Purple claims it sleeps twice as cool. Motion isolation is a 4, so it's good for couples. Edges score 4, a clear step up from the all-foam Purple's 3, because the coils run edge to edge.
Price, trial and warranty
The queen lists at about $2,699 and is often on sale for around $2,399. Purple recently showed $300 off as its "starting at" price. You get a 100-night trial and a 10-year warranty. Both are shorter than at Nectar or Saatva, which matters at this price.
If you like the concept but want a softer feel, Purple's RestorePlus and RestorePremier are the medium-soft and soft versions.
How it compares
For a cheaper way into the grid, the all-foam Purple Mattress costs about $1,100 less at list price, but its edges and cooling are weaker. Helix vs Purple sets the grid against Helix's zoned memory foam hybrids, a common choice for side sleepers. Casper vs Purple shows how an all-foam rival handles heat. This bed also appears in our best cooling mattress guide.

Our verdict
If you sleep hot and share a bed, the Purple Restore Hybrid is one of the strongest options here. It has top-rated cooling, good motion control and pressure relief that suits side sleepers. Skip it if you need a firm surface or a long trial. The estimated firmness means you should rely on the 100 nights to confirm the fit.

Questions about the Purple Restore Hybrid
What's the difference between the Purple Mattress and the Restore Hybrid?
Both use a 2" GelFlex Grid. The Restore Hybrid adds 8" pocketed coils in place of foam support, which improves cooling (5/5 vs 4/5) and edge support (4/5 vs 3/5). The hybrid is also taller at 11.5" and costs more.
Is the Purple Restore Hybrid firm?
Purple sells it as Medium, and we estimate about 5.5 out of 10. No independent score exists yet for the current version. Most people should find it softer than a typical medium-firm bed but not plush.
Is the Purple Restore good for heavy people?
The 8" coils give it more support than the all-foam Purple, so sleepers up to about 250 lbs often do well. If you weigh more and sleep on your stomach or back, a firmer, coil-heavy bed may support your hips better.
