The Zinus Original Green Tea Memory Foam is one of the cheapest and best-known mattresses online. This review covers the 10" version, which has 1.5" of green-tea-infused memory foam, 2" of transition foam and 5.5" of base foam. Tom's Guide rates it 5.5 out of 10, softer than Zinus's own 6.5 claim. This Zinus Green Tea mattress review finds it a sensible budget pick for lighter side sleepers, guest rooms and kids' beds. Heavier sleepers and stomach sleepers should look elsewhere.

Best for: Side sleepers · Lighter bodies · Budget

What we like

  • Very low price, often around $359 for a queen and sometimes less on Amazon
  • A softer 5.5/10 feel gives lighter side sleepers good pressure relief (4/5)
  • Motion isolation rated 5/5
  • Fiberglass-free and CertiPUR-US

Watch out for

  • Thin comfort layers and only 10" total, so it is not built for heavier sleepers
  • Low bounce (2/5) and average edges (3/5)
  • Average cooling (3/5), as you'd expect from basic memory foam
  • 100-night trial and 10-year warranty

Zinus Green Tea feel and firmness

A 5.5 out of 10 sits between medium-soft and medium. The memory foam gives a slow, gentle sink, and you feel the base foam sooner than on thicker beds. The green tea and charcoal infusions are mostly about freshness. Don't expect them to change the feel.

The 12" Cooling and Ultra Cooling versions add height and cooling features. They're worth a look if you run warm or want a bit more cushioning than the 10" model offers.

Best (and worst) sleeping positions

Side sleepers under about 150 lbs are the sweet spot. The softer feel lets shoulders and hips sink, and they won't press through to the base foam. It also works for children and occasional guests. Back sleepers under about 150 lbs can be comfortable. Stomach sleepers and anyone over about 200 lbs will likely sink too far, which strains the lower back. The thin layers are also more likely to soften with heavy use.

In practice, the Zinus works best where a bed gets lighter use, such as a guest room, a child's room, a dorm or a first apartment. In those spaces, a low price matters more than long-term durability.

Cooling, motion and edges

Motion isolation is a 5, so it's quiet for couples sharing a smaller budget bed. Cooling is a 3, typical of basic memory foam. Edges are a 3, so sitting on the side causes some compression.

Price, trial and warranty

Zinus lists the queen at about $718, but it's often on sale for around $359 and widely sold on Amazon, sometimes for less. You get a 100-night trial and a 10-year warranty. Zinus also sells 12" Cooling and Ultra Cooling versions if you want a thicker bed.

Because it's sold widely on Amazon, check whether the trial and warranty terms apply to the seller you buy from. Buying direct from Zinus is the simplest way to be sure.

How it compares

The Siena Memory Foam costs about the same but is much firmer (8/10), making it a better choice for back and stomach sleepers. The Cocoon by Sealy Chill costs a little more, sleeps cooler and is a bit firmer. For a sturdier budget foam bed with a name-brand warranty, see the Tuft & Needle Original. The Zinus also appears in our best budget mattress roundup.

Our verdict

The Zinus Green Tea is a reliable low-cost bed for lighter side sleepers, kids and guest rooms. It offers a soft-medium memory foam feel and excellent motion isolation for very little money. Skip it if you weigh over about 200 lbs, sleep on your stomach, or want a bed that will be your main mattress for a decade.

Questions about the Zinus Original Green Tea Memory Foam

Is the Zinus Green Tea mattress soft or firm?

Zinus calls it medium-firm (6.5/10), but Tom's Guide rated the 10" version 5.5/10, a soft-to-medium feel. Expect a gentle memory foam sink rather than firm support. The 12" Cooling and Ultra Cooling versions are options if you want a thicker bed.

How long does a Zinus mattress last?

Zinus backs it with a 10-year warranty. With thin comfort layers and a 10" profile, it tends to last best under lighter sleepers or in guest rooms. Heavier everyday use may lead it to soften sooner.

Is the Zinus Green Tea mattress good for heavy people?

Not really. People over about 200 lbs are likely to sink through the 1.5" memory foam layer. A thicker hybrid or a firmer bed will offer better support.
