The Cocoon by Sealy Chill is a 10" memory foam bed from Sealy's online brand. It has a phase-change-material cooling cover over memory foam, responsive comfort foam and a support foam base. Tom's Guide rates it 6.5 out of 10, a medium-firm feel. This Cocoon by Sealy Chill review finds it one of the few budget all-foam beds that hot sleepers can consider. It's also a good fit for back and combination sleepers and couples. Heavier sleepers and people who want bounce should look elsewhere.

What we like

  • Cooling rated 5/5, unusual for an all-foam budget bed
  • Motion isolation rated 5/5, good for couples
  • A medium-firm 6.5/10 feel suits back and combination sleepers
  • Often around $399 for a queen

Watch out for

  • Very low bounce (2/5), the slow memory foam feel some people dislike
  • Average edge support (3/5)

Cocoon Chill feel and firmness

A 6.5 out of 10 is a classic medium-firm. You get a memory foam sink at the shoulders and hips, and the responsive foam and base stop you from bottoming out. It's a single-feel bed, so you can't choose softer or firmer.

The phase-change cover is the Chill's standout feature. It absorbs heat as it warms, which is why the surface feels cool when you first lie down. The memory foam underneath can still hold some warmth over a long night, but the cover makes this one of the coolest-feeling budget foam beds in our data.

Best (and worst) sleeping positions

Back sleepers get balanced support with enough contouring for the lower back. Combination sleepers do fine, though the slow memory foam makes turning over a little harder. Side sleepers under about 200 lbs often find 6.5 comfortable, with pressure relief at 4/5. Stomach sleepers usually need a 7 or above. Heavier sleepers may find a 10" all-foam bed too thin over time.

Cooling, motion and edges

Cooling is the reason to buy. Tom's Guide rated it highly, and we score it 5 out of 5. The phase-change cover feels cool, which is rare for a budget foam bed. Motion isolation is also a 5. Edges are a 3, so the perimeter compresses when you sit there.

Price, trial and warranty

Cocoon's site blocked automated checks, so our figures come from Tom's Guide (2025): about $599 for a queen at list price and often around $399 on sale. An older TechRadar article showed a much higher price, so confirm on cocoonbysealy.com. You get a 100-night trial and a 10-year warranty.

Sealy's backing is a point in its favor if you're wary of unknown budget brands. Still, our pricing data for this bed is older than for most others here. Check the current queen price, trial terms and any bundled extras before you compare it with the Zinus or Siena.

How it compares

The Zinus Green Tea is a little cheaper and softer, but it sleeps warmer. The Nectar Classic is firmer (7.5/10) with 5/5 edges and longer policies, so it's better for stomach sleepers. If you want a cool all-foam bed with more pressure relief and don't mind paying more, the grid-topped Purple Mattress is worth a look. The Chill also appears in our best cooling mattress guide.

If you're not sure this is your bed, the 60-second mattress-matching quiz builds a shortlist from your sleep position, weight and budget.

Our verdict

The Cocoon by Sealy Chill is a smart budget choice for warm sleepers, back sleepers and couples. It's a medium-firm memory foam bed with 5/5 cooling and motion isolation at a low price. Skip it if you like a bouncy feel, sleep on your stomach, or weigh over about 230 lbs. Confirm the current price before you order.

Questions about the Cocoon by Sealy Chill Memory Foam

Does the Cocoon by Sealy Chill really sleep cool?

For an all-foam budget bed, yes. Tom's Guide rated its cooling highly, and we score it 5 out of 5, thanks mostly to the phase-change-material cover. Very hot sleepers may still prefer a coil or latex hybrid.

Is Cocoon made by Sealy?

Yes. Cocoon is Sealy's direct-to-consumer brand, and the Chill is made by Sealy. Sealy's backing is reassuring if you're wary of unknown budget brands. The Chill comes with a 100-night trial and a 10-year warranty.

Is the Cocoon Chill good for side sleepers?

It works for many side sleepers under about 200 lbs. The 6.5/10 medium-firm feel and memory foam ease the shoulders and hips. Lighter side sleepers who want a softer surface may prefer a 5 to 6 out of 10 bed.
