The Helix Midnight is a medium hybrid that Helix designs specifically for side sleepers. It combines gel memory foam and responsive foam over up to about 950 pocketed coils in a queen. Mattress Clarity rates it 6.5 out of 10, and Helix calls it a 6. This Helix Midnight review finds it a well-rounded pick for side sleepers, combination sleepers and couples. Strict stomach sleepers and heavier back sleepers will want something firmer, such as Helix's own Dawn.

Best for: Side sleepers · Combination sleepers · Couples

What we like

  • Built around side-sleeper pressure relief (4/5)
  • Balanced hybrid feel, with pocketed coils for support and easy movement
  • Solid edges (4/5) and motion isolation (4/5) for couples
  • Optional ErgoAlign contour layer upgrade

Watch out for

  • Not firm enough for most stomach sleepers
  • Trial and warranty terms conflict between sources, so confirm before buying
  • Helix prices swing a lot with sales, which makes value hard to judge

Helix Midnight feel and firmness

At 6.5 out of 10, the Midnight is a true medium with a slight lean toward firm. The gel memory foam gives a gentle contour at the shoulder, and the responsive foam and coils keep you from sinking too far. It feels like a hybrid, not a foam bed, so you won't feel stuck.

The optional ErgoAlign upgrade adds a contour layer for more targeted support. It's worth considering if you're a heavier side sleeper or sometimes wake with lower-back stiffness. Most average-weight side sleepers will be fine with the standard build.

Best (and worst) sleeping positions

Side sleepers between about 130 and 230 lbs are the target, and the layers seem tuned for them. Combination sleepers get enough bounce (3/5) to turn easily. Back sleepers under about 200 lbs often find it comfortable. Stomach sleepers are the poor match because 6.5 lets the hips sink. Heavier side sleepers may want the optional ErgoAlign upgrade or a firmer hybrid.

Cooling, motion and edges

Cooling scores 4, helped by the breathable knit cover and airflow through the coils. Motion isolation is a 4, very good for a hybrid. Edges are also a 4, so you can sit on the side and use the full sleep surface.

Price, trial and warranty

A queen is about $1,478 at list price and was recently on sale for around $1,183. Helix runs frequent sitewide sales. Helix's checkout page lists a 100-night trial and 10-year limited warranty. Mattress Clarity lists 120 nights and a limited lifetime warranty. These conflict, so check the terms at checkout before you buy, and save a copy for your records.

Helix's product pages load prices in the browser and showed inconsistent numbers when we checked, so treat any price as a guide. Look at the final checkout total, including any sitewide code, before comparing it with Nectar or Leesa.

How it compares

Leesa's Original is a softer-feeling all-foam alternative with a 365-night trial, covered in Helix vs Leesa. The Nectar Premier Hybrid has the same 6.5 rating but better motion isolation. See Helix vs Nectar for the brand-level view. If you want something firmer from Helix, the Helix Dawn is the back and stomach option. Our verdict

The Helix Midnight is one of the most sensible hybrids here for average-weight side sleepers. It contours at the shoulder, supports at the hip and handles a partner well. Skip it if you sleep on your stomach or want the longest trial. Confirm Helix's current trial and warranty before you check out.

Questions about the Helix Midnight

Is the Helix Midnight good for side sleepers?

Yes, on paper it is one of the best fits in our dataset. Helix designed it for side sleepers, and its 6.5/10 medium feel with 4/5 pressure relief lets shoulders sink while the coils hold up the hips. Very light side sleepers may still want something softer.

Is the Helix Midnight too soft for back sleepers?

Usually not for back sleepers under about 200 lbs, who tend to find 6.5 supportive. Heavier back sleepers may notice their hips sinking. They'd be better off with the firmer Helix Dawn.

What is the Helix Midnight's trial period?

Sources disagree. Helix's checkout page shows 100 nights and a 10-year limited warranty, while Mattress Clarity lists 120 nights and a limited lifetime warranty. Check the terms shown at checkout.
